Drawing my blank

“I am not the picture you’ve painted in your mind of me. No matter how beautiful, or how horrible it may be. They are your colours; and your own artistry”-   Suhaib Rumi   This adulting life is very confusing;one day you are rich, the next day you are a mathematician. So hello fellow mathematicians and welcome to my thoughts :)      Hands were made for doing. For a carpenter to carve, a sculptor’s to sculpt, a mother’s to love and a father’s to protect. Mine are the hands of an artist. Every brush stroke of paint I make, every instrument I hold to play, every sketch I make, every everything that I ever; it all comes from a passion within. When speaking to a person who does possess my passion for the arts, it’s as though our conversation is not a conversation at all; but rather a sharing of different languages. They cannot grasp the idea that art is not solely a descriptive language , it’s a conjoining of both mind, body and soul.         Small trip down memory lane,

A note to my younger self Hey,  I hope you’re still at the age when you think gum is nutritional. (I used to think that it goes into storage for when you break a bone. If we’re already past that stage, it’s alright, everything still applies. So here goes. Relax. The world won’t collapse when you decide to take a breath. You’re awesome but there are days that are too heavy, and that’s okay. A couple of years later you’re going to wonder why you put yourself   under so much pressure or you might sigh and say it was all worth it. I don’t know what you’re feeling right at this moment. I wish I did because who doesn’t want to be able to predict the past. So just live in the moment. Experience those feelings and grow from them. One day at a time. Mistakes will come and go but they will not define you. So don’t hold on to them.  Keep dreaming, and believe in yourself because mindset is everything. From every situation, learn and grow, heal from the hurt and love the person tha

" Hi , how was your day?" It's the first question I get when I walk through the door. We don't just stop at Hi. I could say it was good but then they'll ask ; "What did you do?" "How was it." "Did you..?" And then it's a whole half hour conversation . Especially if they're not at home, they have to call and ask, Hi how was your day? In this people series let's talk about the people that are there for us, mostly because they have no choice but also because they are the most important parts of our lives . Family. General word applicable to all sorts of people in our lives. To all the people that really want to know how you're doing. To all the people that at the end of the day make you put things in perspective and finally say, hey it really was one hell of a day. To all the people that listen. To all the people that wish you all the best. To the ones that encourage you and keep you going. To all the moments in

Sometimes you meet people and you just want to turn back, cross the road and go back to the point in time when you hadn’t met them. Sometimes you meet people and wonder why you didn’t meet them any sooner. Then you wish you could have them in your life forever and ever and ever. Other people you meet and take for granted, until they are there for you in ways you didn't expect. Some people you leave in the past, others you carry in your heart wherever you go. Sometimes you meet a mysterious face and you wish they’d become familiar. A lot of times you meet people and wonder what kind of person you are to them. I could go on and on but then I’d start wondering what kind of writer I am to you, so let’s get more specific. Have you ever just cringed at the thought of meeting someone? I know we’re starting off with the bad place but stay with me.   You literally go to a place, see a face and there’s a total shift in your mood. I know I have, one too many times. Let’s talk t

Happy, such a simple word. Two syllable word, ha-ppy. I mean how hard could it be. To be happy? That's the challenge right there. I know my audience is probably millennials who are 'living their best life', for the gram and all, but work with me here. In the waking up, looking forward to your day, the day itself, all the way to your reflection at the end of it all just before you go to sleep. Happy, even when there's a driver that's been honking for the past 10 minutes for whatever reason right outside your house while all you're trying to do is have a lovely evening, worst case scenario. We're all just trying the best we can, because essentially no one really wakes up wanting to have the worst week of their lives, or to have everything that could go wrong literally go wrong.  If I keep going down this path this might turn into sappy life advice, not really what I'm going for, so let's rephrase.  They say you cannot really separate an arti

The cocktail

There's a mix of people in our lives, different characters, all together making up this one crazy cocktail of friends. Let's see if we can describe everyone in your circle.   1. The funny bone At least everyone has this one, and if you're lucky you have more than one. This is the outstandingly funny person in the group; constantly making jokes so you're always laughing when you're with them. Now I know you're thinking, but all my friends make me laugh. I assure you this one has the specific talent of rib-holding, rolling on the floor kind of happiness. 2.The sweet tooth. Probably a she. Don't sue me for sexism or anything but yeah, probably a she😅. Sweetest thing you've ever met. you cannot even imagine them angry with you for more than 2 mins, they are just too nice. Your first option in case you need a favor. 3. La Rationale The thinker, they make the best plans. Always overanalyzing stuff. Them; Guys if it's going to CJ's

He just stood there. Right in the middle of the road, well not exactly in the middle but not at the sides either, you get the picture right?Peculiar behavior in the Nairobi CBD traffic. We are on the move kinda people, you don't just stop to admire the buildings or whatever. He had been pulling a cart full of water jerricans. They looked very full of water, I bet they were very heavy to be pushing around in traffic while also trying to dodge the ruthless drivers. I also bet he was not a day older than twenty five. He actually looked like he was 20, I assumed. I also assumed he'd had it rough in life. He must have had it rough, otherwise he would be living the dream, driving one of those cars he was standing next to. That's what happiness is to us,no? Big cars, big dreams...  I obviously did not know his story, so I assumed, as we often do. So there he was, in the almost middle of the road, looking like he needed a break from it all. Breathing heavily like he was gathe
